Practical

During your practical driving test you will be given the oportunity to demonstrate that you are able to safely drive a car and take into consideration such things as the road and weather conditions as well as your surrounding environment and other road users.  This may seem daunting prospect at first and with help from Excel School of Motoring coaching you along the way it should not be too long before you are ready to take the test.

These are just a selection of the subjects that need to be covered, understood and well practised before sitting the practcal driving test.

  • Controls of the car
  • Moving off and stopping safely
  • Angled, uphill and downhill start
  • Turning left and right from major to minor roads
  • Emerging from 'T' junctions
  • Crossroads
  • Roundabouts
  • Pedestrian crossings
  • Meet, cross and overtake other traffic
  • Turn in the road
  • Reversing round a corner
  • Reverse parking
  • Emergency stop

The sujects will not necessarily be covered in the shown order as much will depend on the local area and your needs as a pupil.   Also the lesson plan could and should change if, say, there is difficulty in a particular subject area then the focus of the lesson will change to cover that area.

In addition to the listed subjects, driving skills such as clutch control, steering, use of mirrors, road positioning, speed and anticipation will be taught and assessed.
